Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots (also often styled as twenty one pilots or TWENTY ØNE PILØTS) is an American duo from Columbus, Ohio. The group was formed in 2009 and currently consists of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dan.

The collective independently released two albums: Twenty One Pilots in 2009 and Regional at Best in 2011. In 2012, the musicians signed a contract with Fueled by Ramen, in 2013 released the studio album Vessel, in 2015 - Blurryface, and in 2018 the new album Trench.

2009—2011: Creation and first album of Twenty One Pilots
The group was formed in 2009 in Columbus, Ohio by college friends: Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih. Tyler came up with the name of the group while reading Arthur Miller’s play “All My Sons”, which tells about a man who during the Second World War put defective parts into the army for the sake of business and his family, which caused the death of 21 pilots. Tyler explains that this story of a moral dilemma was the inspiration for the band's name. December 29, 2009, they released their debut self-titled album and began touring Ohio.

In 2010, the group posted two officially unreleased tracks to their SoundCloud account. A song called "Time to Say Goodbye" and a cover of "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perry. Initially, they were available for free download, but now they have been deleted.

In 2011, Nick and Chris left the group due to tight schedules. Then Tyler was joined by Josh Dan, a former drummer for House of Heroes.

2011-2012: Regional at Best and deal with Fueled By Ramen
Their second album, Regional at Best, was released on July 8, 2011 with a new lineup that included only Tyler and Josh. The CD's release was accompanied by a free performance at New Albany High School.

In November 2011, the band played a show at Columbus' Newport Music Hall and attracted dozens of record companies. Although many record companies fought for the band, they ultimately signed with Atlantic Records, a subsidiary of Fueled by Ramen. In the same year, the duo presented the fans with two tracks that were not released via electronic mailing: the original version of “House of Gold” and a single called “Two”.

2012–2014: Vessel and hit the mainstream
In April 2012 at Lifestyle Communities, they announced they were signing a contract with Atlantic Records, a subsidiary of Fueled by Ramen. On July 17, 2012, they released their debut EP, recorded at Fueled by Ramen, titled “Three Songs”. In August 2012, they went on a short tour with the groups Neon Trees and Walk the Moon. They worked with Greg Wells, producer Adele and Katy Perry, on their first full-length album, Vessel, at Fueled by Ramen. It was released on January 8, 2013 and reached No. 58 on the Billboard 200, No. 42 on the Digital Albums chart, No. 17 on the Internet Albums chart, No. 15 on the Rock Albums Chart, and No. 10 on the Alternative Albums Chart.

The band currently has its first radio hit in America, “Holding On To You, ” which reached number 11 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. In addition, the singles “Guns For Hands” and “Lovely” achieved 21 and 67 spots on the Japan Hot 100.

On November 12, 2012, a video for the song “Holding On To You” was released on YouTube. On January 7, 2013, a video was released for the song “Guns For Hands” and on April 19 for the song “Car Radio”.

In May 2013, Fall Out Boy announced that Twenty One Pilots would be touring in support of their Save Rock and Roll Tour album next fall.

On August 8, 2013, the band performed the song “House of Gold” on Conan in their last nightly performance. On October 2, the video for the song “House of Gold” was uploaded to YouTube.

On December 24, Christmas Eve, Tyler participated in the Five14 Church’s Christmas with stars in New Albany. There he sang “O come, O come, Emmanuel”, the official video of the performance was uploaded to YouTube on February 14, 2014.

On December 31, Twenty One Pilots released a video for the song "Truce". Also in December, a video was downloaded for the song "Migraine", but only for the UK. However, he was soon removed.

In 2014, the group began to break into the mainstream. So they went to the most popular festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Firefly. They also looked at requests from different cities and combined all this into the Quiet Is Violent World Tour, which started in September 2014.

2015—2017: Blurryface and the first Grammy
On March 17, 2015, a clip was released for the song Fairly Local. After 21 days (April 6), the group released a new video for the song “Tear In My Heart”. On April 27, a music video for the song “Stressed Out” was released. May 4 release of the track "Lane Boy".

On May 19, the band released their second studio album, Blurryface. The album sold more than 134, 000 copies in its first week, which allowed the group to debut from the first line of the Billboard 200 chart. The group's popularity is growing rapidly, on May 11 they go on a major Blurryface World Tour, which includes 48 shows. The tour is ending November 11, 2015.

On May 31, 2016, the group went on a tour called “EMØTIØNAL RØADSHØW WØRLD TØUR”. It is planned to play 107 shows in total. The group also visited Russia on October 22 and 23. On this tour, old songs, covers were added to the set list, and the stage design and the show’s synopsis were completely changed. The tour will end on April 8, 2017.

On August 4, 2016, the film Suicide Squad was released. The film released the soundtrack album Suicide Squad. It included tracks from 14 different artists, including the single “Heathens” by Twenty One Pilots.

In 2017, for the song "Stressed Out" the team received a Grammy in the nomination "Best Pop Duet."

2018 - Present: Presentation of a new album
In March 2018, Hometown's track received gold certification, making Blurryface the first full-length album in which each song received at least gold certification

In July 2018, the group broke a year’s silence and sent their fans who ever registered on their official website messages with the text “Are you still sleeping?”, And a few days later updated the photos on social networks in the photo with a new logo and color (yellow)

On July 11, 2018, the group released two new songs called “Jumpsuit” and “Nico and the Niners”, as well as the announcement of their fifth studio album, “Trench”. Later, on July 26, 2018, a video for the song “Nico and the Niners” was released. The song Levitate was subsequently released as the third single from the album. A music video for this song was also released, resulting in the completion of a series of trilogy.

Also on July 11, the dates of the new THE BANDITO TOUR tour, which starts on October 16 in Nashville, USA, became known.

On September 12, twenty one pilots hosted their first concert in more than a year in London, where they first performed new songs from the Trench album. During the show, a burning car was on stage.

On the night of October 2 to 3, the Trench album was merged.

On October 5th, along with the official release of the Trench album, a clip for the song My Blood was released.

On January 22, 2019, the track “Chlorine” was released as the fifth single from the album, along with a video clip for it
